Boris Pistorius, the German Minister of Defense representing the Social Democratic Party (SPD), has publicly criticized members of the opposition Union parties in light of recent coalition negotiations concerning migration policy.

During a closed session of the SPD parliamentary group, Pistorius described two Union negotiators, Alexander Dobrindt and Thorsten Frei, as 'particularly unpleasant,' emphasizing a perceived lack of humanity and responsibility in their approach to the negotiations.

Statements attributed to Pistorius, corroborated by multiple attendees, indicated he expressed frustration over how Dobrindt, leader of the CSU parliamentary group, and Frei, the parliamentary manager, conducted themselves, implying a deficiency in moral integrity.

This exchange underscores ongoing tensions between the SPD-led government and the Union parties regarding migration and asylum policy, a particularly sensitive topic in German political discourse.

Despite the critical remarks aimed at Union negotiators, Pistorius defended the outcomes of the negotiations, claiming the SPD succeeded in removing the most extreme proposals from the initial draft of the negotiation document.

However, he acknowledged that the Union managed to reintroduce the term 'limitation' into the residence law, which he characterized as a 'placebo' lacking significant impact.

Pistorius noted that given the SPD's electoral support, which currently stands at approximately 16%, the results accomplished during the talks were noteworthy.

He highlighted that the SPD effectively prevented the Union from exerting a greater influence over the discussions, stating that the party did not allow any Union participation in their 'front yard.'
