Recent INSA Poll Indicates Changes in German Political Dynamics Ahead of 2025 Elections

Recent INSA Poll Indicates Changes in German Political Dynamics Ahead of 2025 Elections

Polling data shows increased support for CDU/CSU, Greens, and Left Party, while SPD sees a decline.
A recent poll conducted by the German polling institute INSA has revealed significant shifts in the political landscape of Germany, less than two weeks before the upcoming Bundestag elections, scheduled for February 23, 2025. According to the INSA poll results, the conservative Christian Democratic Union/Christian Social Union (CDU/CSU) has gained one percentage point, raising its support to 30%.

Conversely, the Social Democratic Party (SPD) has experienced a decline, falling one percentage point to 15%.

The far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD) has maintained stable support at 21%.

The poll also indicates that support for both the Greens and the Left Party has increased by one percentage point, with the Greens now at 13% and the Left Party at 6%.

Meanwhile, the Free Democratic Party (FDP) continues to struggle, holding steady at 4%, which remains below the threshold necessary to secure representation in the Bundestag.

Additionally, the BSW has decreased to 5%, losing one percentage point, while 6% of respondents expressed support for other parties.

The INSA poll, part of the 'Sonntagstrend' published in the 'Bild am Sonntag', surveyed 1,205 citizens from February 10 to 14, carrying a statistical error margin of ± 2.9 percentage points.

These election results will significantly influence the composition of the next German parliament as campaign activities ramp up in the lead-up to the election.

In a separate poll carried out by Allensbach and published in the 'Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung', the FDP's support is also listed at 5%, marking its highest level since August of the previous year.

This development could have important implications for FDP leader Christian Lindner, as he seeks to enhance his party's electoral prospects.

Notably, the Left Party, which has typically polled below three percent, has shown a resurgence to 6%, opening up the possibility for their re-entry into parliament.

However, the faction associated with Sahra Wagenknecht has seen its numbers decline to 4%.

The recent polling data highlights a fluid political environment in Germany, with voter preferences shifting as citizens prepare to cast their votes in the forthcoming elections.
