U.S. Resumes Military Aid to Ukraine Following Negotiations in Saudi Arabia

Secretary of State announces renewed military support and intelligence sharing amidst ceasefire agreements in the Russia-Ukraine conflict
In a significant development in U.S.-Ukraine relations, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced the immediate resumption of military aid to Ukraine, which had been suspended.

This announcement was made during a press conference held in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, where U.S. and Ukrainian delegations reported progress in ongoing negotiations.

Secretary Rubio confirmed that the United States would also reinstate the exchange of intelligence information between U.S. and Ukrainian armed forces, indicating a notable shift in U.S. policy towards Ukraine.

Pawlo Palissa, Vice Head of Ukraine's Presidential Office, corroborated the announcement via social media, stating, "I have the confirmation that U.S. security aid has been resumed.

The agreements are being fulfilled." In return for the resumption of U.S. military assistance, the Ukrainian side has reportedly agreed to a 30-day ceasefire in the ongoing conflict with Russia, although the effectiveness of this ceasefire is contingent upon Russia's agreement.

Rubio emphasized that the U.S. plans to communicate to Russia the importance of its cooperation in achieving peace.

According to a joint statement from both the U.S. and Ukrainian governments, both parties have agreed to establish negotiation teams and initiate discussions on a permanent peace that ensures Ukraine's long-term security.

The U.S. intends to discuss specific proposals with Russian representatives during these negotiations.

Furthermore, Ukraine has insisted on the inclusion of European allies in any peace negotiations.

The joint statement indicated that both sides have agreed to expedite discussions toward an agreement related to the extraction of rare earth elements in Ukraine, a point that has been contentious in prior talks.

It was noted that former President Trump had previously demanded that Ukraine provide access to resources valued at approximately $500 billion, a request that Ukraine has declined thus far due to the lack of U.S. security guarantees.

Secretary Rubio highlighted that it is now Russia's turn to act on the proposals and described Ukraine's agreement as a positive step forward.

A deadline for Russia's response has not been established, but there is hope for a swift resolution.

U.S. National Security Advisor Mike Waltz confirmed that Ukraine has submitted concrete proposals, and the discussions have included substantial details on how to conclude the war.

Waltz is expected to engage with Russian officials in the coming days, while Secretary Rubio will consult with his G7 counterparts.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky emphasized that the ceasefire proposal addresses not just aerial and naval engagements, but also land conflicts.

He expressed gratitude for what he described as constructive discussions, highlighting that the U.S. understands Ukraine’s perspectives and is considering its proposals.
