The SUV subsequently skidded off the roadway and rolled multiple times before stopping in an adjacent agricultural area.
In the rear seats of the GLE 450 were four women who were reportedly not wearing seat belts.
A 31-year-old and a 42-year-old passenger were pronounced dead at the scene despite resuscitation efforts.
A 21-year-old and a 46-year-old also in the vehicle survived the crash but sustained severe injuries, which, according to authorities, were significant yet not life-threatening.
The driver of the red SUV, a 43-year-old man, and his 38-year-old female passenger were both reported to be seriously injured but were wearing seat belts at the time of the crash.
In contrast, the 85-year-old driver of the truck involved and his 79-year-old passenger emerged from the incident without injuries.
In the aftermath of the collision, the A6 heading towards Nuremberg was closed for approximately three and a half hours.
This closure was necessary to facilitate emergency response actions and to initiate an investigation into the factors contributing to the accident.
