Travel Warning Issued for Israel as Israel Closes Embassies Worldwide

The German Foreign Office modifies travel advisories, heightening security measures amid escalating tensions in the Middle East.
The German Federal Foreign Office has issued a travel warning for Israel following Israeli military operations targeting sites in Iran, which were met with drone attacks from Tehran that have since been intercepted.

In light of the escalating conflict, the office has modified its travel advisory, cautioning that further aerial assaults and rocket strikes could occur anywhere in Israel at any time.

As a precaution, Lufthansa has suspended all flights to Tehran until July 31, and has extended the suspension of its flights to Tel Aviv until the end of July.

Additionally, flights to Amman in Jordan, Erbil in northern Iraq, and Beirut in Lebanon have been halted for at least one week.

The airline group, which includes Lufthansa, Swiss, Austrian, Eurowings, ITA Airways, Brussels Airlines, and Lufthansa Cargo, has announced it will not utilize the airspace of the affected countries.

In response to the developments, Israel has closed its embassies and consulates worldwide.

The Israeli Foreign Ministry confirmed that this decision was made due to the current situation in Israel and Iran.

The Israeli Embassy in Berlin, for instance, was reportedly closed on Friday, with officials citing the ongoing instability as the reason.

The German government has increased security for Jewish and Israeli institutions within the country.

Chancellor Friedrich Merz emphasized this decision, indicating that security authorities would implement necessary measures to safeguard these sites.

In a telephone conversation with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Merz was briefed about the military operations in the region.

Following this call, he convened a session of the Federal Security Cabinet to assess the situation further.

Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul stated at a press conference in Cairo that the cabinet would meet to decide on appropriate actions as the situation develops.

Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt informed the heads of the federal states during the Interior Ministers' Conference in Bremerhaven that currently there are no indications of specific threats related to pro-Iranian activities in Germany as a result of tensions in Israel and Iran.

Moreover, Berlin police are monitoring the situation closely, particularly in light of anticipated pro-Palestinian demonstrations scheduled for the weekend, which could heighten emotional responses surrounding the conflict.
