Former President Donald Trump has rescinded the security clearances of key figures from the previous Democratic administration, including Antony Blinken and Jake Sullivan.
Former President
Donald Trump signed an order revoking the security clearances of several senior officials from the prior Biden administration, further deepening partisan divisions in Washington, D.C. The officials affected include former Secretary of State Antony Blinken and former National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan.
This decision follows Trump’s earlier action on Friday, where he rescinded the security clearance of former President
Joe Biden, thereby restricting his access to daily intelligence briefings.
In addition to Blinken and Sullivan, Trump also revoked the security clearance of former Deputy Attorney General Lisa Monaco, who had coordinated the Department of Justice's response to the January 6, 2021, Capitol attack.
Moreover, Trump rescinded the security clearance of New York Attorney General Letitia James and Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg, both of whom have led legal actions against him.
This move is part of a broader trend; last month, Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin took similar action, revoking personal security and security clearance from former Joint Chiefs Chairman Mark Milley, who became a vocal critic of Trump after retiring from the military in 2023.
Traditionally, former presidents are granted access to intelligence briefings to assist sitting presidents with national security and foreign policy matters.
However, in 2021, Biden similarly revoked Trump's security clearance.
